Between municipal and county parks, there are many outdoor recreational areas in Scotch Plains. And if you are looking for an outdoor venue for a party, there are a few options.
There are a number of municipal parks in Scotch Plains and 2 are available for reservations, April through November:
Brookside Park is located at 1255 Hetfield Avenue. In addition to the picnic area, it features basketball and pickleball courts, a baseball/softball field, a playground, and a walking trail.
Featuring all the same amenities as Brookside Park, except for the pickleball courts, Jerseyland Park is located at 2377 Richmond Street.

There are 2 county parks that are in Scotch Plains, in whole or in part, and have picnic areas:
In addition to 2 reservable picnic areas, Ponderosa Farm Park features a spray park and a playground, so there's a lot for kids to do there. There's also a soccer field.
The Watchung Reservation is huge and runs through or past a number of townships. And there is so much to do and see there. There's horseback riding, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, nature trails, a playground, and so much more.
The picnic areas of Union County parks usually already have tables and seating. However, we can still help with tents or outdoor games, like cornhole.
To use the picnic areas in any Union County park, you must reserve the date and follow the relevant guidelines.
We'll deliver most of what you need for a great party, but you'll have to supply the food. Here are some local restaurants that have catering menus.
Grano offers traditional Italian food, sandwiches, and can provide dessert. They're located on Park Avenue.
If you live in or around Scotch Plains and haven't tried the Roman Square Pizza at Massa, you need to do so. Along with the pizza, Massa offers focaccia sandwiches, panini, salads, and antipasto platters.
Savory Selections serves up delicious comfort food, like BBQ Chicken, Jerk Chicken, BBQ Ribs, Crab Boils, and much more. Don't forget to check out their desserts, which include Peach Cobbler and Bread Pudding.
Located on South Avenue, Tom The Green Grocer started as a roadside produce stand in 1977. Today, they offer a lot more, including catering. Their catering menu is diverse, with sandwich platters, chicken and pasta entrees, antipasto platters, and more.
If you're looking for Chinese food, look no further than China House, on Route 22. Their catering menu includes General Tso's, Lo Mein, Fried Rice, and other classic dishes.
